Support we need

In addition to pitching in for an hour or two during a muster to help collect, sort, or redeem the cans and bottles, we have some specific support we’re always looking for:
  • Use of a pick up truck for 2-3 hours on Sunday morning (for the following musters: Saratoga, DRAM, Westbrook, and Sudbury)
  • Cases for beer bottles - save your cardboard cases so we can transport glass bottles without breaking them.  Even better - bring us your empties in the case!
  • Driver of people – can you shuttle a batch of kids and adults from the Muster field to the local supermarket or liquor store for the redemption runs?  Sometimes volunteers can pitch in for an hour or two but don’t have a ride (for Saratoga and Sudbury Musters)
  • Water or snacks: Packing up on Sunday morning and heading to the dumpster?  Bring an extra bottle of water or granola bar over to the Green Team kids sorting the giant mountain of cans and bottles – you’re guaranteed to be a hero!

Donate supplies & equipment

  • Clear plastic bags to hand out at DRAM camping entrance: these can be any kind of clear plastic bag, big enough to capture the average tent site’s worth of cans & bottles.  At one per camp site, we use 200-400 of these a year.
Wish list: 400 - 800 to get a jump on the years ahead.
  • Recycle racks: we use Folding Trash Bag Stands from Harbor Freight Tools item number 90430 - it's essential to our operations to have these all identical to one another.  For every rack we purchase, we build a lid to match all the others in size and shape (described below).  Then we paint the lids at camp and add them to our inventory.
             Wish list: 12 new racks
  • Can you help us make new lids for our Recycle Racks?   Have access and expertise?  We'd love to make a few new kits to spread amongst our Leadership Team.  We make our lids out of ¼ inch Luan cut to 18 inch by 18 inch squares with a hole saw in the center.  We create a lip (so the lid will hold the wire rack on which it stands) with 1 inch X 1 inch pine in 8 inch pieces long, affixed 4 inch on center of each side.  We glue and reinforce those pieces with ¾ inch screws, 2 per piece/side.
Contact us with any questions or ideas.
             Wish list: 12 new lids
                                                                        ***

Well stocked now, but will have needs in future:
  • Clear plastic bags for racks: very specific needs (learned the hard way over the years!) clear plastic 33 gallon (dimensions 33X39), low-density, weight 2 mil.  We go through about 100 of these each at DRAM and Westbrook.  [FULLY STOCKED through 2017 - we ordered bulk recently and are good for 2 more years.  If you know a good source, please let us know, we'll certainly need these forever!]
  • Rubber gloves: in small, medium, and large sizes for all of our volunteers to use. [FULLY STOCKED through 2017 - Many thanks to Scott Garland for giving us the gift of safety in a lovely shade of purple!  We're good to go for another 2 years]
